  1. Mix golden syrup, milk, and sugar in a medium bowl that can be microwaved. Choose 50% power, and then dial up 3 min. Press the START button. Press the START button.
  2. Put the flour, spices, baking powder, and butter in the bowl of the food processor. Process until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. While the motor is running, add the golden syrup and mix until smooth. Add the egg and blend until combined.
  3. Place the pears, cut side down, into a 20cm by 20cm square pan that is microwave-safe.
  4. Pour the cake mix over the pears. Choose 70% power and dial for 25 minutes. Press the START button.
  5. Allow the cake to cool completely after removing it from the microwave.
  6. Serve with coffee or tea.
